Ask! Seek! Knock! ❤️ 2024 – Week 7

Last week (wk 6 of 2024), as I was reading through the 1st bible reading for church service on Sunday, 11.02.2024 – those three words, ask, seek & knock, stood out for me. The reading is from the gospel of Luke – chapter 11 – reading verses 1 to 13: it’s about the Lord’s prayer and Jesus’s teachings to His disciples about how to pray. Verses 9 and 10 are below:

Luke‬ ‭11:9‭-‬10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

[9] “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  [10] For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

These verses from that passage struck me – and got me thinking. Maybe, we don’t get what we ask for because we’re asking for wants & not what we need, seeking out wrong things and with bad intentions, knocking on wrong doors, or just not knocking at all – sitting back & waiting for things to happen or to get better.

This passage caused me to pause and review how I have been praying 🙏 And I realised I have been asking for everything else except the Holy Spirit – refer verse 13:

‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

[13] If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

First and foremost, when praying, rather than asking for forgiveness, discernment, peace, mercy, and the many things we want happening to or for us, we must instead, ask for the promised Helper, and that is the Holy Spirit. I believe everything else will fall in line when we get our priorities in prayer sorted 🙏. The Holy Spirit is what Jesus promised His disciples:

‭‭John‬ ‭14:15‭-‬18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

[15] “If you love Me, keep My commandments.  [16] And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—  [17] the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.  [18] I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

We must live with God-given purpose! Pray to God with purpose, ask with purpose, seek with good intentions, and knock at the right doors and places!

To God be the glory always 🙏❤️

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder!
Like raindrops glimmering on summer frangipani blossoms.
The sun, when it comes out,
Will dry away the raindrops
And the flowers fade
But their beauty
Purposely created by God
Captured in this moment, as
They dance to the cold wind,
Bring promise of even brighter days ahead!
Behold the Creator of all things so beautiful
The great I Am 🙏
Then and only then can
Beauty lie in the eye of the beholder!
