Fruit of the Spirit ❤️ 2024 – Week 18

‭Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV‬

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

I’ve started volunteering at this aged care facility, not too far home. It’s a blessing to be in the midst of so much wisdom and knowledge, spanning many, many years.

Every week, we are reminded by one of the residents of this particular bible verse – the fruits of the Spirit and they read them off by heart, without a glance at the bible. It’s a memory verse etched in their mind forever ❤️.

Reminds me of my mother, who, among other things, due to her advanced dementia, did things repeatedly – praying was one! She’d pray, and five minutes later, she would be praying again 🙏

The last line of verse 23 had me thinking today: “…Against such there is no law.” There is no law stopping us from being loving, kind, patient, good, peaceful, etc.. Yet, in this day and age, it’s a struggle to be any of those things.

Look around us – there are laws against killing, stealing, breaking and entering, adultery, and many more. But we see a lot more of those – every day on the news, social media feeds, TV, radio etc – we hear about wars, fighting, killing, shooting, and many more. It’s as if the world wants to be inundated by all these negative rather than good news.

So I’m grateful for this resident’s reminder – of the fruits of the Spirit. Those are what we should be filling our lives, our families, relationships, workplaces, etc, with: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control ❤️
