Hard work ❤️ 2024 – Week 24

Proverbs 14:23 NIV‬

[23] All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase ‘hard work’? The poet in the proverb above wisely links profits to hard work, recognizing that rewards (tangible and otherwise) and success are often the direct result of diligent labour and steadfast commitment.

By linking profits to hard work, the proverb highlights the cause-and-effect relationship between effort and achievement, emphasizing that success is not solely dependent on luck or chance, but rather the outcome of intentional and persistent hard work.

This stunning graduation cake in the photo above is a testament to the dedication and effort invested in its creation. A considerable amount of thought, resources, time, and energy went into crafting this masterpiece, making it a sweet culmination of hard work and a celebration of achievement.

As I watched the procession of graduates and academics at the commencement and conclusion of last Friday’s (14.06.2024) final graduation ceremony, I sensed a palpable energy in the air.

While some of the graduates and attendees may have been feeling anticipation and excitement for the future, others may have simply been eager to escape the chilly winter weather. Either way, the atmosphere was charged with a sense of urgency, and I could sense that everyone was ready to move on to the next chapter – whether that meant getting out of the cold or starting a new journey.

A poignant reminder that graduation marks not only the end of a significant chapter but also the beginning of a new and exciting path of “hard work” going forward.

Hard work is a continuous process that extends beyond the celebrations, as the preparation and dedication required to achieve successes are ongoing. Just as the graduation attire is stored away, the effort and commitment required to achieve the next milestone are already underway.

My reflections on hard work and graduation led me to this insightful Bible verse that resonates deeply:

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV‬

[23] Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, [24] since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

This Bible verse inspires me to approach my work and volunteer duties with a positive attitude and integrity. When I focus on serving with good intentions and dedication, I find joy in my tasks, no matter how challenging they may be.

When we work with a higher purpose, as if we’re actually serving God, this mindset will help us to stay motivated, dedicated, and committed to excellence in all that we set out to do.

Proverbs 6:6-11 NIV‬

[6] Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! [7] It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, [8] yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. [9] How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? [10] A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— [11] and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

Embracing hard work and perseverance may be challenging, but it yields abundant rewards. By dedicating ourselves to our tasks with unwavering honesty and integrity, as if we were serving God, we reap benefits that far surpass earthly riches. Our efforts become a testament to our character, and the fulfilment that comes from a job well done is a treasure that goes beyond material wealth.

Ephesians 4:28 NIV‬

[28] Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

To God be the glory always ❤️🙏
