A devotional on character, compassion, and the lifelong journey of the heart.
No, this is not a review or reflection on Michelle Obama’s book 😊 — I still hope to read it one day.
Rather, this is something I shared a few years ago and feel prompted to share again — as a reminder. For myself, and perhaps for you too, as we continue this sacred journey of becoming.
Bible reading 📚
Ephesians 4:32 NIV
[32] Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Reflection 🙌
This reflection is especially for the young people in my life — my children, cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren (yes… I’m ancient 😄). Mark these words and hold them close.
Life often measures success by where you study, the job you land, or how much you earn. But those things, while important, do not define who you are. What truly matters is your posture toward life and the way you treat the people God places around you.
When God is at the centre of your life, nothing is impossible.
The road may not be easy, but with God’s presence and the right attitude of heart, all things are achievable ❤️.
A quote by George Washington Carver recently resurfaced in my social media memories from 2014, and it still speaks with timeless wisdom:
How far you go in life depends on your being:
– tender with the young,
– compassionate with the aged,
– sympathetic with the striving, and
– tolerant of both the weak and the strong.
Because someday in your life, you will have been all of these.~ George Washington ~
As I reflect on these words, I realise that through different seasons, I have been each one — young, striving, weak, strong, and now aging (hopefully with grace 😊). And you, too, have been — or will be — all of these.
Life is not static; it is a continual unfolding. We move in and out of these seasons, sometimes more than once. As for me, I’m not ruling out being young again — if not in years, then certainly young at heart 😍.
The heart of this message is empathy — learning to see through another’s eyes and to walk gently in their shoes. That is why I love this quote so much; it mirrors the heart of Scripture.
The verse that beautifully anchors this truth for me is Ephesians 4:32 – which reminds us to be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving of one another, just as God did for us through Christ.
This is what becoming looks like — allowing God to shape our hearts with kindness, gratitude, compassion, and grace in every season of life.
Prayer 🙏
Lord,
As we journey through life, teach us to be tenderhearted —
* gentle with the young,
* compassionate with the aged,
* patient with the striving, and
* gracious with both the weak and the strong.
Help us to remember that we are all becoming, and that each season shapes us for Your purpose. May our lives reflect Your love, and may our hearts remain soft, humble, and anchored in You. In Jesus Name, Amen 🙏❤️

To God be the glory always 🙏
