2026, Week 3 – Rooted!

Trusting God’s Heart

I began 2026 with “Unafraid” — do not fear — as my guiding word. But after listening to insights from an author that I follow on social media I was inspired to change it.

Words like fear and afraid, even when framed positively, still carry a weight I don’t want to anchor my year in. My desire for 2026 is to move away from negativity and live with a hopeful, Christ-centred outlook.

Psalm 1 reminds us that a life deeply rooted in God’s Word is like a tree planted by streams of water — steady, nourished, unmoved. And we know from John 1 that the Word is Jesus Christ.

This year, I choose to be anchored in Jesus 🙏. Not because I am strong, but because God is gracious and merciful.

Bible Reading 📚

Psalms 5:11-12 (NIV)/
But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Salamo 5.11-12 (Motu)
Oi e abidadama henimumu taudia na bae moale, bae moale hisi dae ela bona hanaihanai, oi ese o gimadiamu dainai; oi ladamu e ura heniamu taudia ese bae moalelaimu. Badina be oi ese kara maoromaoro tauna o hanamoamu;Iehova e, emu harihari-bada amo o gimaiamu, kesi na heto.

Reflections 🙌

Reading Psalm 5 alongside Genesis 18 draws my heart to the same truth told through different lives.

Psalm 5 is David’s prayer of refuge—a cry from someone who knew both the shelter of God’s favour and the weight of human failure. “Let all who take refuge in You be glad… You surround them with Your favour as with a shield.”

These words feel lived-in, spoken by a man who understood that righteousness is sustained not by perfection, but by returning again and again to God’s mercy.

Genesis 18 shows us Abraham standing in that same space of trust. Confident in God’s gracious character, he intercedes boldly, asking that Lot and his family be spared. Abraham appeals not to emotion, but to who God is —
🙌 just, yet compassionate;
🙌 holy, yet merciful.
His faith rests in the belief that mercy can still be found, even in the shadow of judgment.

Together, these passages remind me that refuge is not passive. It is found in prayer, in intercession, and in trusting God’s nature when circumstances feel uncertain.

Whether it is David seeking protection, or Abraham pleading for the lives of others, both reveal a faith anchored in knowing God’s heart.

And perhaps that is the invitation for us too—not to hide from our frailty, but to bring it before a God whose favour still surrounds, whose mercy still listens, and whose refuge remains open.

Reflection Anchor (January – Rooted): When our trust is rooted in who God is, our faith remains anchored—steady even when the ground beneath us feels unsure.

Prayer 🙏

Lord,
You are our refuge and our shield. Root our hearts deeply in who You are, that our trust may grow strong and steady.

Anchor us in Your faithfulness when fear rises and answers feel distant.  Teach us to trust You—not only for ourselves, but as we intercede for others, believing in Your mercy.

Help us to walk uprightly, to return to You quickly when we fall, and to rejoice in the shelter of Your presence. We choose to remain rooted in truth and anchored in Your unfailing love.

In Jesus Name, we pray, Amen 🤍
