Goodness in this world!

Psalm 34:18 NIV
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

In a world overcome by sorrow, pain, confusion, fear, anger, envy, jealousy and so much more – it is only human nature that we fail to see beyond our pain and recognise that there is so much goodness as well. Covid19 is creating even more health, social, economic and political disparities resulting in even more confusion, fear, prejudices, etc.

I wrote this poem back in 2015 about the goodness in this world. More often we choose not to see the goodness in others – our eyes and hearts are turned blind by the fear of the unknown or ingrained prejudices. I wrote it after seeing a fellow commuter having an epileptic fit and every one of us in the carriage scrambling to help them out. Also earlier in January of the same year, my children and their cousins led by late Materua Onzem ran into a building with a blaring smoke alarm, to save an elderly man from his smoke-filled apartment.

The firemen/women who arrived on the scene later were very impressed by what late Mate and his cousins had done – they acknowledged that if the boys hadn’t acted responsibly and as fast as they had – a more serious incident could’ve occured.

Late Materua Onzem, a young man, so humble yet courageous whose heart was full of goodness. He didn’t just talk, he walked the talk – the epitome of a true gentleman. A leader not just to his siblings and cousins but to everyone else he touched in his short life.

Yes, Mate – gone too soon, son but I know you loved without reserve and your goodness was shared with and felt by so many, including us here in Sydney. We will miss you. May your beautiful soul rest in God’s eternal peace forever 🙏. This one is for you titled “Goodness in the world” ❤

There is so much of it!
Goodness that is.
We choose not to see it!
Goodness of people.
Often we choose to be blind to it!
Based on race, colour, religion, etc

Goodness perseveres!
A commuter having epileptic fits.
Everyone stands up to help!
Offering water, reassuring them!
All showing genuine concern!

Goodness prevails!
House full of smoke
Young people run in
No sense of self preservation
Keen to help elderly man
And doing that efficiently

Goodness in people!
We are all born with it!
We are graced by it!
It’s God’s goodness!
To be shared with others!

Romans 12:2 NIV
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
