It all started one Friday afternoon in 2018, while sitting in a quiet project office, in the heart of Sydney CBD – quiet, not because it was Friday and people had already left the office. Most of my colleagues and bosses were still in.
It was quiet because deadline for the project we were working on was fast approaching, go-live was under two weeks away! It was a quiet type of stressful Friday afternoon. I knew, I (and many others) would be working late yet again and most possibly into the weekend too. Yes, quiet-stressful, it was.
I decided to take a break and spent the next 30 or so minutes just surfing through the internet and reading through personal email on my phone. One email stood out: it was from a tour company, with their promotions. A particular deal, caught my attention “12 day Europe Escape”; I clicked on it and read through the details, itinerary, costs and most especially the available dates.

I guess the word “escape” stood out for me and made me think I probably needed one. ‘Actually, I deserve one, after a stressful second half of 2018’, I said to myself! So an ‘escape’ was what was on my mind when I clicked on the “Book now” button and paid the deposit for two people.
Never mind the blown credit card, I thought, that’ll get paid in due course. Never mind not discussing with family especially my husband – I’m sure he and the rest of the family will understand, I assumed!
Later that day, when I arrived home from work around 10pm, I announced to my family “I booked a 12 day Europe trip for two earlier today, who wants to come with me?”
“When?” they asked. I replied “12 months from today, and I’ve chosen the dates so that on my 50th birthday, I will be waking up in Paris, France. And will have lunch or dinner at the Eiffel Tower!”
Of course our children agreed that Iamo & I should do the trip, that we both deserved the getaway! Bless their hearts. All of that transpired on Friday, October 26, 2018. The rest they say is history! And Iamo and I are forever grateful to God for His grace and mercy upon our lives.
Fast forward to October 25, 2019 – a Friday, we boarded an A380 plane from Sydney, for what we later termed as our “Bubumoon” – a trip of a lifetime, London, UK was our first stop!
