The Beauty of God

Hebrews 13: 5-6
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

I wrote this poem back in 2012. And in this trying COVID19 days as well as all the other issues happening, racial discrimination, unemployment, escalation of gender based violence (GBV) etc – the world over, this poem reminds me to set my focus on God.

“The Beauty of God”

Looking around
Surrounded by people
From many different cultures
Many different places

I wonder in awe
At how beautiful God’s creation is
It’s not in the flora & fauna
That we see & smell daily

That beauty is not in the blue sky
Nor the sun, moon or stars
Nor does it exist in the blue seas
Nor the fish & marine life in it

It’s not on the land
Nor the animals that roam on it
I realise the beauty of God
Exists in mankind

In the mute lady whose using sign language to talk to others
Waving her hands wildly as if dancing
I see the beauty of God in her

I see the beauty of God in the homeless man with all his worldly belongings stuffed into three plastic bags, using the park bench as his bed

I see it in the old & the elderly
Every Sunday in church
Who despite their age & frailty
Take time always to worship God

God blessed mankind
With eyes to see and hearts to love
Ears to hear and noses to smell
Hands to reach out and touch others

That is the beauty of God that exist in mankind that makes us different to all His other creation
No science or technology can ever overcome that beauty!
